I was feeling really, seriously homesick this week and decided on cooking some greasy American-style fast food to help me cope. The hardest part was figuring out how to get American cheese. I found that only Kraft had some in the local grocery store, under the label “burger slices” or “sandwich slices”, since I guess they weren’t technically cheese. They’re also not the usual orange, probably because of less food coloring. Either way, it’s close enough. For these sliders I actually baked my own buns from almond flour, which worked out pretty well.
- Use around 80% lean ground beef and divide into 2-3 oz balls, trying to work the meat as little as possible.
- Create burger mix with 1/4 cup mayo, 1 tbsp mustard, 1 tbsp ketchup.
- Grease a hot pan with some vegetable oil and put down beef balls, smashing flat with a spatula. Salt and pepper the patties and smear some mustard on top.
- Flip after 2-3 minutes, or when browned, and immediately place a slice of American cheese on top.
- Add trimmings, burger mix, and finished patties on buns, to taste.
